The former Macon County Friendship Group met in the Cordell Hull Building in Lafayette, TN. It was started by Melvin C. The group split and the Lafayette New Hope Group was formed. The original members were Faye F., Jim W., Jack K., and Bill C.

After the group split the Lafayette New Hope Group started meeting in the Lafayette Methodist Church on Tuesday nights. In 1992 they moved to the Macon County Senior Citizens Center and added Friday nights to their meeting schedule. There were a couple of moves until the group found their present home in 1997, in the rear, lower level of the Valley Ridge Mental Health Center on Sycamore Street.

As of December 2004 the group still meets twice a week. Tuesdays are closed meetings, and Fridays are open meetings. The group’s growth of a few “home group members” to over 30, with sobriety ranging from a few days, to over 30 years is due to it making everyone who comes to a meeting feel welcome and at home.

On Tuesday’s, attendance at our closed meeting will be 10 – 15, while on Friday nights we will average 20 to 40 and more. Home group members are very committed to service carrying meetings into jails and treatment centers. Newcomers and visitors from the treatment center are given temporary sponsors or sharing partners. The last Friday of the month is the “birthday eating, speaker meeting”. The business meeting is held on the first Tuesday of the month. We are represented at the State Assembly by our GSR and follow the suggested guidelines of “Self Support” for the District, Area, and GSO.
